Safeguarding

At Hunters Hall Primary School we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our pupils and we require all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Our policies related to Safeguarding can be found here.

We have a duty of care to all our pupils to share any information about them which is a concern.

We endeavour to work in an open and transparent way and, unless the welfare of a child is believed to be at risk, we would share any concerns with parents/carers before sharing information with other professionals.

If your child is in either Year 5 or 6 and you wish for them to travel home independently, then please complete the risk assessment below.

Our school has been invited to participate in Operation Encompass, a national initiative that helps safeguard children and young people who may be exposed to domestic abuse. Our school has signed up to this initiative.

This initiative will result in us, as a school being better equipped to support children who have been exposed to or experience domestic abuse in their home as we will be notified the next day when there has been police involvement.

If you have any concerns outside of school hours, or feel it more appropriate to make a referral to Social Services directly, please contact the Assessment Team on 020 8227 3811.

In an emergency please contact the Police. Dial 999.

Prevent

Schools are required by law to work to protect people from radicalisation. One of the ways we do this is through the government’s Prevent programme.

The Prevent programme in Barking and Dagenham is about:

  • keeping vulnerable people safe from harm
  • tackling all forms of extremist views when people express them, regardless of where a person comes from
  • working with our local community where there is a risk of anyone being radicalised

At the heart of Prevent, we want to keep children and adults safe from extremist grooming and offer help early – before someone becomes radicalised.

This work is similar to the work we do to keep children and adults safe in other areas, for example from sexual exploitation, gang culture and other criminal behaviour.

Prevent is one stream of the government’s counter-terrorism strategy.

This focuses our work on four areas:

  1. Protect: Strengthening our protection against terrorist attacks.
  2. Prepare: Where a terrorist attack cannot be stopped, reducing the impact of it.
  3. Pursue: Stopping terrorist attacks.
  4. Prevent: Reducing the number of people becoming or supporting violent extremists.

We work with people and groups before a crime has been committed, to ensure they understand extremist views are unhealthy and will not be tolerated.

This work focuses on:

  1. Ideology: We challenge the ideological arguments or beliefs of terrorism and the threat we face from anyone trying to promote it.
  2. Individuals: We prevent people from being drawn into terrorism and make sure they are given appropriate advice and support.
  3. Institutions: We work with other organisations such as schools, colleges, community centres and places of worship where people may be affected by radicalisation. This involves training people and guidance so they know how to spot the signs of radicalisation and then supporting anyone showing concerning behaviour.
